Jane Kellahan - Call of the Mountains Exhibition at The Rippon Hall, Opening Night 27th September 2018

September 6, 2018

ARTIST?S EMOTIVE EXHIBITION ? CELEBRATING THE BRAVE SOULS OF SEARCH AND RESCUE

Wanaka-based, international award-winning artist, Jane Kellahan, will present a special multi-media exhibition at The Rippon Hall from 27th September to 4th November recognising and celebrating the incredible work by our courageous Land Search and Rescue Volunteers.

The ?Call of the Mountains? Exhibition is a celebration of Kellahan?s 25 year painting career.

?It is also a befitting tribute to those lives lost to the mountains and an acknowledgement to our local LandSAR rock stars,? Jane Kellahan.

This? is? Kellahan?s inaugural LandSAR Exhibition, in which she will donate a portion of her sales towards the brave men and women of LandSAR and their ?big season ahead.

Kellahan?s work features a strong collection of oil paintings, ceramic sculptures, and jewellery. These works have been created and refined at her ?studio in Wanaka, New Zealand.

?I have lived in Wanaka for over a year now and there is definitely a strong sense of community here that I have never experienced before. I have thought about this and I believe that it has a lot to do with LandSAR. When critical, life saving operations occur, it brings people together, it?s a very intense and powerful feeling. My mission is to educate the public, make a personal financial contribution to LandSAR, and to recognise those who have lost their lives in the mountains,? Kellahan said.

This exhibition was born by the tragic death of Kellahan?s close friend, Seddon Bennington, the CEO of Te Papa Museum who died tramping in the Tararua?s in 2009.

?I will be focusing on connecting with the community, giving them an opportunity to write their stories, their tributes, and display photos of their families and friends, who were also taken by the mountains,? she said. These will be displayed on a special wall as a feature piece of the exhibition.

?LandSAR solely rely on donations. When they take on these dangerous, life saving missions, no-one gets billed for being rescued and no-one gets paid.? says Jane.

The ?Call of the Mountains? Exhibition will be staged at the Queenstown Arts Centre from 7 ? 25 September, and the Rippon Hall, Wanaka, from 27 September to 4 November. This exhibition is generously supported by Sir Ron Brierley, Aspiring Catering, Rhyme and Reason, Rippon Vineyard, Maude Wine and Printit.
